WHO WE ARE AND WHERE WE STAND
We benefit from over 40 years of intensive experience in the international fuel business. After the first 15 years of success in the coal business, we took the logical step of founding COALORBIS TRADING GmbH in 1996. Several subsidiaries and affiliates subsequently brought their knowledge and experience to expand our capabilities in the field of project development.
As well as COALORBIS TRADING GmbH with its base in Mülheim an der Ruhr, we also have a presence in further subsidiaries in Jakarta (Indonesia), Beijing (China), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and a representative in New Delhi (India).
Coal is much more than our business. We are fascinated by coal, "our sunlight turned into rock", a unique and valuable raw material. This enthusiasm has led to an accumulation of experience and extensive knowledge, which we can use to great effect for the benefit of our customers.

THE HEAD OF THE COMPANY
Our founder, Ernst-B. Gidionsen, was under the spell of coal even as a child. In the end, he defied all the warnings and ventured on to the coal scene at a time when nobody considered coal to have a future. Today he is a renowned figure on the market, a much-valued expert. Indeed, in one Asian country he is appointed as an expert on the sector. His knowledge and his special sense of fairness are immediately noticeable and make him a highly appreciated business partner.

We supply coal and coke in any quantity and quality required, and deliver it to your desired destination. Our long-established contacts and experience mean we can maintain deliveries, even when there are bottlenecks in the supply chain. We would be glad to undertake all required processes on your behalf and be on hand as your reliable partner. We provide you with detailed advice on selecting the best product for your intended use and support you with the modalities, such as insurance and financing.
All the processes are monitored by us, naturally this also includes the loading and unloading processes of shipments.
We leave neither the coal nor our customers on their own; moreover, we offer you a reliable all-round service. We have a duty of care, which we take very seriously. You can depend on our efficiency and reliability because we have years of experience and specialist skills in all sectors and are there to guide you every step of the way.

With coal from first-class producers, we also ensure long-term sufficiency of supply for our various customers.

Processing
The coal is crushed, washed, screened and if required blended according to the customer‘s wishes. The result is exactly the quality that the customer orders from us.

Storage
We have large storage facilities and can of course offer our customers temporary storage. Our storage is not only economical, it is environ-mentally compatible, secure and efficient.

Transport
COALORBIS supplies the majority of goods on a CIF basis in COALORBIS-chartered ships to the agreed port of destination or FOB in a ship provided by the customer. A not inconsiderable proportion is transported by train from European producers directly to European end users.
ANY AMOUNT OF COAL FOR ANY AMOUNT OF CUSTOMERS
We obtain most of our coal from Indonesia, South Africa and Poland.
The Indonesian coal is exported principally to India, China, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Coal and coke from Poland find most customers in Europe.
Our main customers for coal and coke are importers, power stations, cement and lime stone works and, of course, the European steel industry. All the giants of steel manufacturing have been major customers of ours for years.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC RESPONSIBILITY
In a world in which we are limiting carbon emissions because we feel a responsibility towards future generations, tomorrow's economic success is increasingly dependent on innovative products and services. We are following the intensive efforts to minimise CO2 emissions with great interest. The energy industry is currently working under high pressure on a technology to render CO2 emissions from coal-fired power stations harmless to the environment by capturing and storing the gas, a process known as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Initial pilot studies show that coal can be used in a climate-compatible manner. This project is highly regarded all over the world and receives public funding, including European grants. Even the United Nations Climate Committee regards these developments positively.

THE FUTURE OF COAL
At the end of an extensive research project, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) came to the conclusion that coal could play an even more important role in the future than it does today. „We believe that the use of coal will increase in every foreseeable scenario because it is cheap and amply available,“ concluded the expert committee consisting of academics from the fields of economics, science and politics, at the end of three years of data collection and analysis.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) calculates that primary energy consumption will rise by 55% by 2030. Over the same time period, the share of fossil fuels in primary energy consumption will reach 29%. Coal currently produces 40% of our electricity.
